Residency Training
The FIRH is home to the Respirology Residency Training Program of the Division of Respirology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University. The McMaster Respirology Training Program fulfills the specialty training requirements in adult respiratory diseases as defined by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
During the first two years, clinical rotations provide the opportunity to develop skills with interpretation of pulmonary functions tests, exercise tests and chest radiology. Specialized rotations include cystic fibrosis (CF), sleep medicine and lung transplantation. Elective time in the second year is available. Residents, in conjunction with the program director, can plan electives to fill their specific objectives (clinical or academic).
A third research-oriented year is possible for residents considering an academic career. A combined program in respirology and critical care is no longer available; however, the program director will assist the resident with the application process for entry into the excellent critical care training program offered at McMaster.
In addition to our respirology residents, training is provided to numerous medical residents (on rotation), medical students and clinical fellows.
Fellowship Training
FIRH hosts postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists from all around the world for clinical or basic science fellowships. These fellowships are funded either by scholarships or sources provided by the applicant, or in some cases, through support by FIRH faculty.
If you are interested in applying for a postdoctoral position, please email Victoria Bryczka.
